Three Decades Observing Societies in Practice

A selection of first-person essays examining societies, institutions and daily life across Latin America, Europe and Africa through travel, business experience and long-term residence in Argentina.

While many pieces draw on three decades of living and working in Latin America, the scope is international. Observations from Argentina are placed alongside experiences in a range of diverse countries, allowing comparison between different political systems, economic structures, social environments, and human and family relationships.

Recurring themes include political change, economic reform, migration, infrastructure, regional identity and the practical realities of everyday life in different cultures. Several essays consider the operational challenges faced by firms and individuals working across borders — negotiating between legal systems, regulatory cultures and differing expectations of trust, authority and communication.

Others approach similar questions through football, gastronomy, transport networks or anecdote, using everyday cultural environments as entry points for broader reflection on how societies function in practice rather than in theory.
All essays are written in a narrative style combining personal experience with analysis and are intended for an internationally oriented readership interested in business, politics, culture, and simply being alive.
